New Year Revelers Advised to Dress Warmly with Wintry Weather Expected Throughout the UK
Forecasters have indicated a frosty commencement to the new year, with wintry precipitation expected across much of the UK. Revelers are being urged to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Plans Proceed Amid Forecasts
Edinburgh's iconic Hogmanay celebrations are planned to proceed, unlike last year's cancellation. This is in spite of yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.
"A cold New Year's Eve evening for those out celebrating, so warmer clothes will be necessary," said the Met Office.

As we enter Friday, advisories have been issued for Northern Ireland and from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and most of the south-east of England.

Readings Forecast to Drop Even More
With the start of 2026, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," commented forecaster Simon Partridge. Temperatures are set to fall even more as snowfall and high winds are expected to affect the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow is forecast to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, potentially hitting 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Medical Advisories Issued
In addition, serious cold weather health warnings have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to stay active until noon on 5 January, with temperatures likely to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency said this signified the weather could to cause notable consequences across medical and care provision. This encompasses a expected uptick in the fatality numbers among the elderly or unwell or those 65 and older.
